V60 Brew Guide

When brewing coffee with a V60, it's crucial to control the flow during the pour-over process. The flow plays a central role in extraction and significantly influences how the coffee's flavor notes develop in the cup. With the right technique, you can highlight everything from fruity and floral notes to more complex and balanced flavor profiles.

V60 is one of the most popular pour-over brewing methods and is often used alongside other classics like Chemex and Kalita Wave. Common to these methods is that they give you full control over the brewing and thus the ability to optimize the taste of your coffee.

As a general rule, a brewing ratio of approximately 65 grams of freshly ground coffee beans per liter of water is recommended. This ratio yields a well-balanced cup of coffee but can easily be adjusted to preference – whether you desire a stronger or milder coffee.

A typical brewing time for V60 is around 2.5 to 3 minutes. The brewing time significantly impacts extraction and can be adjusted by changing the grind size. A finer grind will slow down the water flow and increase contact time, while a coarser grind results in a faster flow.

You can also influence the outcome by adjusting your pouring technique. By varying the pace and pauses between your pours, you can control the flow and thus optimize the extraction of flavor from the coffee. This makes pour-over coffee a flexible and precise brewing method, ideal for both beginners and experienced coffee enthusiasts.
